About Me

I've been problem solving from a young age. Disassembling, repairing, modifying and reassembling things has always played a big part in my life. Spare time at home was spent tinkering, and the Design and technology lab at school was my second home. One of the top five marks in the country at A Level Design and Technology helped my progression to Portsmouth University to read Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.  A year in industry with a leading test house taught me a great deal about shock and vibration testing and data logging. I graduated in 1999 with a BEng. A short spell van driving (I used to carry a box of CVs round with me in case I saw a place I liked the look of) led to a spell in the medical industry designing nebulisers and respiratory devices. I then spent time working with classic and unusual cars before going on to Hamilton Jet, where I spent time learning about boats, more about engines and of course water jets. I then spent time working on development of sail winches and yacht deck equipment. This involved a lot of hand calculations and I learned a lot about prototyping and rapid manufacture. Having left a CV some time previously at a small naval architecture consultancy in Chichester, I got a chance call from the then MD and ended up going to work in an office with a couple of other guys working on unmanned vessels. I stayed for ten years, seeing the company go from three people to a hundred and fifty, through three buy-outs and a mind boggling level of technical progression. This firm is now the world leader in unmanned surface vehicles.   After ten years, an opportunity arose for me to set up on my own. Making things, helping other people solve problems and  help them make things as well. I had set up a well equipped workshop at home, and work was starting to come in by word of mouth. It is all varied and interesting work. I meet interesting, passionate and enthusiastic people and spend time discussing new strange and sometimes just dead-simple ideas. Its even better when we end up putting those ideas into practice. In what little spare time I have between family and work. I fettle old and ancient cars and motorcycles, listen to music and fly fish.

 Operational Projects.
I am a qualified and experienced powerboat operator, holding the RYA Advanced powerboat license with commercial endorsement. I have hundreds of logged operational hours  encompassing military training, hydrographic survey, and sea trialing new build vessels. I also have many hours of operational experience driving unmanned vessels within controlled “range” environments and open sea in "direct line of sight" and "over the horizon" scenarios.

I have a wealth of experience in trial / operational planning and management.
